The Beginning of a New Adventure

Like many people, I’ve struggled my whole life, trying to balance my love of food with my desire to be thin and healthy. I am here to tell you that the food has won!
After many years of trial and error and much weight loss and gain I know what works and what doesn’t and I know what plans I will and won’t follow. So when my sister, who is cursed with the same struggle as I am, recently came to me and asked if I wanted to join Weight Watchers with her I was leery. However, after taking a look at their program we decided to join.
The great thing about Weight Watchers is that you can eat anything you want. Every food is assigned “Points” based on the fat, carb, protein, and fiber content of the food. Based on your age, height and weight you are given a Points allowance for daily and weekly consumption. So the bottom line is, if you have the points to spend, you can eat the food! That being said, it forces you to really think about what you are eating: Yes, I could have pancakes, bacon, and eggs for breakfast but do I really want to use up all my points for the day on one meal?
It all comes down to the very simple, yet complex, concept of choices…..
I have decided to look on this new challenge as a way to correct some rather bad food habits that my family has picked up over the years. Evan though I am following the Weight Watchers program, I have been striving to eliminate that dreaded “D-word” (diet) from my vocabulary and thinking of this as a “life style change”. This is NOT a change in eating pattern that I am implementing to loose weight, this is a bad eating habit I am eliminating so that my family and I can be healthy people.  We are a family of four, my husband (an insulin dependent diabetic), my 18 year old son (who is NOT overweight, but does not have healthy eating habits), and my 15 year old daughter who, along with me, is in desperate need of shedding pounds. We are all embarking on this new adventure together….

……The Diet that is Not a Diet.
